These social happenings originate from before the Dutch Golden Age and are still a great place to go for all kinds of products ranging from unique handcrafted items to the best organic food in town. In Amsterdam, there is a market every day of the week; so knowing where to go is essential. To help you on your way, we’ve compiled an insider’s guide to the best farmers markets in the city.


This market is located next to the Noorderkerk (Northern Church) right in the Jordaan area and along one of the city’s famous canals. Every Saturday, you will stumble upon fine antiques, curiosities, art, kitsch, design, books, and vinyl records. On the other side of the square, you will find the farmers market with organic fruit, vegetables, meat and cheese; coming directly from the farms around Amsterdam. Make sure not to miss some of the cozy cafes surrounding the market, such as Winkel 43- known for its famous home-made apple pie.

The Lindenmarkt is located on the Lindengracht, close to the Noordermarkt. The cobbled Lindengracht is a filled up canal which makes it a spacious street and perfect to line up 232 stands. The range of products is diverse and the merchants of the Lindenmarkt offer almost everything you could think of. Grab a coffee to go and walk through stalls of fresh flowers, fruit, fish, sausages and Dutch cheese as well as delicious pastries and sweets You will not leave empty-handed.

Ten Katemarkt

Located in Amsterdam West, this is a typical Dutch day market that originates from 1912. The street was Amsterdam’s city wall until 1896 when the city expanded. The Ten Katemarkt is an authentic Dutch market and a cheerful display offering everything from flowers to cheese and wine.

When: Monday to Saturday from 9 am till 5 pm

Sunday Market

As its name suggests, the Sunday Market is held every first Sunday of the month. It was inspired by the London Camden, Portobello and Spitalfield markets. In the monumental Westergasfabriek area, you will find an eclectic mix of fashion, art, and design. Talented artist and local designers know how to find their way to the Sunday Market to expose their latest creations. After strolling the stands, you can grab a bite from one of the food trucks and listen to (live) music.
